This policy explains how Detrended collects, uses, stores, and shares personal information. It applies to the website and to the newsletter we send by email, and should be read together with our terms of use. Detrended is operated in Australia and handles personal information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).

1. What we collect

When you subscribe to the newsletter, we collect your email address. We also keep basic access logs, such as the IP address you connect from and the pages you open, to keep the site working and secure.

2. How we use your information

We use your email address to deliver the newsletter and to respond when you contact us. We do not use your information for advertising, and we do not sell it to anyone.

3. Where your information is stored

Your email address is encrypted and stored on Oracle servers located in Sydney, and newsletters are delivered through Amazon SES. We keep your information for as long as you remain subscribed, and afterwards for only as long as Australian law requires.

4. When we disclose your information

We do not disclose, barter, sell, trade, or share your personal information except in two situations. We pass it to the service providers named above so they can carry out the functions you have asked for, and we disclose it when an Australian court order or the law requires us to.

5. Cookies and tracking

The site does not run third-party advertising or analytics trackers, and we do not build profiles about you or follow you across other websites. The only cookies we set are the ones a feature needs to work, for example to keep you signed in.

6. Links to third-party websites

Our articles sometimes link to websites outside Detrended. Those sites have their own privacy policies, which may differ from ours, and their own practices apply once you follow the link. Read them before you hand over any information there.

7. Your rights

You can unsubscribe from the newsletter at any time using the unsubscribe link at the bottom of any email we send you. If you want to correct or delete your personal information, or get a copy of it, email us at [email protected]. We act on requests within a reasonable time and in line with the Privacy Act.

We post any change to this policy on this page. If a change is material, we will also notify you before it takes effect.
